my guess is that my dad created this user. it probably should not be allowed while it can't be properly accepted by the whole system.

 1. create a user with special character (such as High$).
  * I tried to create a user Test$ on 1.8.current and it was rejected with exactly the same error msg as you quoted above.
 2. try to access the link.
